Since 2023, David Feng has joined an exclusive team of some of the most authoritative language experts in Beijing, closely working with City Hall. This builds on top of over 15 years of improving the city’s English, from Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022 all the way to the post-Covid era.
It’s almost impossible to find an institution where David hasn’t improved English and “internationalised” service. From healthcare to immigration, traffic management to parks, railways, subways, and highways, David is committed to making the Chinese capital a genuine global hub. He also takes part in monthly luncheons with fellow expats, as part of also being active in Beijing’s expat community.
由 2023 年起，馮琰參與北京市最為權威的語言組織，密切與市政府改善中國首都外語環境。此事即基於自 2008 及 2022 年夏/冬奧會以來 15 年努力，一直至疫後。
現在，在北京不易找到沒有馮琰曾參與之外語改善及服務國際化機構，無論是醫療、出入境、交通管理、公園、鐵路、地鐵或公路。馮琰正繼續密切留意北京國際化環境，希望將中國首都語言環境成為世界各地僑民樞紐。同時，他積極參與北京外僑社群各活動。
Of course, along the way, there is always the inevitable bit of Chinglish — sometimes isolated, at other times almost appearing ubiquitous. “Chinglish is funny, until not very — at the latest, when a badly-translated sign causes you to miss your train or plane,” is how David sees it.
But David fixes it, with Swiss-inspired precision, thanks to his decade-plus in Zürich, and his extensive global travel and competency in multiple languages. Starting from fixing Rail English, he now fixes English across most public-facing institutions. To solve the problem of local clerks having limited access to quality English content, nearly all of his content is bilingual, and delightfully Chinglish-free.
