2. The Place Where It All Happened: Zumikon Town Hall, Switzerland

On 14 December 1996, David gave his first-ever speech onstage in front of hundreds. As part of the school’s Christmas special event, he read, along with another fellow student, a poem about winter in French.

David’s family wasn’t all too strict, but being more Confucian parents, they preferred he focused more on his studies rather than “performing”. Being able to address such a huge crowd in the main hall of Zumikon Town Hall was a big thing for David, paving his way to even more public speeches and presentations in future.

He returned onstage for a second poem reading a year later — this time in English.
